The plan was for myself and Adrian to depart Old Sarum in GTORC on Friday 26 May and meet Alan, flying from Wycombe Air Park in an Archer, and Malcolm and Vic flying from Fowlmere, also in an Archer, in Antwerp. We were then to route, via Allendorf (Eder), to Berlin Tempelhof, Kunovice in the Czech Republic to visit Evektor, Budapest, Klagenfurt (Austria), Venice (San Nicolo), Albenga, Nimes, Carcassonne, Toulouse to visit Airbus, Le Mans for the 24 Hour Practice weekend and then back to UK on Sunday 4 June. 3rd September saw the Old Sarum Open Day. The day started with low cloud and rain with a brisk wind. Undaunted the Old Sarum team lead by Vicky de Candole ignored the weather and prepared the airfield for the public. As the rain fell steadily and the wind blew the first guests began to arrive. Just when it seemed that months of planning were being slowly washed down the drain the rain stopped and a small patch of blue sky appeared. Minutes later a C42, flown by Rick Connell was airbourne. The highest terrain I ever cross is Snowdon in Wales at 3,600 feet therefore a week of mountain flying in the Fiordland of South Island New Zealand seemed very exciting.
