Microlight Aircraft

At Old Sarum we operate the Ikarus C42. This German built aircraft is one of the new breed of Microlights. It has the feel of a much larger aircraft and a fantastic performance.

Before your flight your instructor will explain what to expect, how the controls work and agree the route that your flight will take. You will then settle in to the comfortable cockpit where your instructor will explain the instruments and controls.

After the necessary pre-takeoff checks you will line up on the runway your instructor will apply full power and you will be airboune in less than 100 meters. The rate of climb is also very impressive and you will soon be levelled off and it will be your turn to take the controls. Although the C42 is a Microlight, it is quite fast and cruises at nearly 100 mph. This will allow you to explore a considerable distance from the airfield.

After trying some basic manoeuvres, you will return to Old Sarum. On the way, depending on wind direction you will see either Old Sarum Castle or the Figsbury Ring before landing. Once landed, your instructor will present you with a certificate and answer any questions that you may have.

If you go on to obtain your Microlight licence, the experience garnered during the flight counts towards your qualification.
