CPL Instructor
CFI David Scouller spent 35 years in the RAF, leaving in 1989 and he has held a professional civil licence for over 35 years. He has 13,500 flying hours mainly as a Test Pilot and Instructor, both civilian and military. During his RAF career he was an Instructor with ETPS at Boscombe Down, Commander of the Fighter Test Squadron, and later the Commanding Officer of Experimental Flying RAE Farnborough. David has been at Old Sarum since 1992 and is Head of Professional Training conducting PPL, CPL, IR and Flight Instructor training. He is a CAA Flight Instructor Examiner.
Flying Experience Required
The flying experience required to upgrade from a PPL(A) to a JAR/CPL(A) is a pass in the CPL Skill Test and a total of 200 hours flying, including 10 hours instrument flying instruction, 100 hours pilot in command (PIC) and 5 hours night flying. 20 hours of the PIC requirement must be cross country flying including a route of at least 300 nautical miles, flown on the same day, with two intermediate stops. Candidates for the Skill Test must have completed an approved course of 25 hours flying training at least 5 hours of which must be on a complex type. The overall total of 200 hours flying may include experience gained on a Flight Instructors Course and a Night Qualification Course, both of which are also offered by Old Sarum. Before starting a modular CPL course candidates must hold a valid PPL(A) and have completed 150 hours flight time as a pilot.
CPL Flying Course
The course consists of a minimum of 25 hours. We offer the course on a PA28-161 Warrior and a PA28-200R Arrow which will ensure that your flying skills are developed on an aircraft which is a natural step on the way to flying a twin.

Extra hours £187.50 per hour Arrow, £180.00 per hour Warrior
